Newcomer Class Worked on "59th Street bridge" song : Singing the harmony line with three people. Teaching the contrast between a triplet count against a four count. Playing the song all the way through.
Beginner Class "59th Street Bridge" song : when to take a breath & where to mark that on your music during the triplets section. Drilled the tricky section of "This Land is Your Land".
Intermediate Class Everyone held their teddy bears as they listened to the delightful bear themed performances by Karen & Jolie !
Thursday, September 16 - Day 519
Newcomer Class C scale. Explanation of how to find out what the four individual notes are in every chord ... using "Melanie's 12 Musical Notes" strip. How to "Count in" on "Happy Birthday". Chuck Strum for "Lion Sleeps Tonight". Discussed the arrangement and played "Happy Together".
Beginner Class Drilled the intro for "This Land is Your Land" and practiced the tricky parts, then played the whole song . Announced the advanced version strum to come: Alternating the "brushing" of the C String & the G string.

Newcomer Class "Happy Together" : Worked on playing the chords, focusing separately on the verse chords & then on the chorus chords. Started working on the strum for the intro.
Beginner Class "Happy Together" : worked on intro & combined it with starting to play verse one. The tricky part of "This Land is Your Land".

"This Land is Your Land": the Brush Strum, alternating the C & the G string, then played through the song . Worked on intro for "Happy Together" & connected it with the beginning of verse 1.
Beginner Class Reviewed intro on "Happy Together" & connected it with singing beginning of 1st verse . Triplet section of "59th St. Bridge", where to take a breath while singing, then played it through .
Intermediate Class Dean taught intro riff to "Harvest Moon" . Sang "Happy Birthday to Jolie! Glen led us through the first part of "Harvest Moon".

Newcomer Class "This Land is Your Land": the tricky parts. Intro of "Happy Together" into first one.
Beginner Class "Happy Together": the intro into the verse, then played the whole song. "This Land is Your Land" clarified the strum mute and other details and played some of the sections and clarified the ending.

Newcomer Class "Happy Together" : the intro to verse 1, chords between the F & the G, clarification of how many beats to strum at the outro for each of the 7 lines. Verse 2 of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - the knocks.
Beginner Class Played parts of all 4 of the September songs. Clarified the starting pitch for "Happy Together".

Newcomer Class Worked on chuck strum for "Lion Sleeps Tonight" & reviewed the arrangement & the options for verse two - knocks or strums. "59th St. Bridge" : the triplet section.
Beginner Class Played "59 St. Bridge" with single strum. Worked on first 3 verses then played it through. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" : worked on being able to sing the words while strumming and playing verse one. "Happy Together": played verse 1 one time through.

Newcomer Class - "Happy Together"- worked on the outro then drilled on the the chord progression for the chorus. Played versus 2 & 3 and then practiced the Chuck Strum for "Lion Sleeps Tonight".
Beginner Class - "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Next, practiced the plucks on "This Land is Your Land" then played it all the way though. Played the intro to "Happy Together".

Newcomer Class - Clarifying the strum of "59th St. Bridge". Worked on looking straight ahead and not at your chord hand as an exercise to understand that you have the pattern of the chords ingrained.
